WASHINGTON | Thu May 17, 2012 12:11pm EDT

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - President Barack Obama has decided to extend for another year certain U.S. sanctions on investment and trade with Myanmar, saying Washington supports the reform process but remains concerned about human rights and conflict with ethnic groups.

"Burma has made important strides, but the political opening is nascent, and we continue to have concerns, including remaining political prisoners, ongoing conflict, and serious human rights abuses in ethnic areas," the White House said in a statement issued as Myanmar's Foreign Minister Wunna Maung Lwin began a visit to Washington.
