U.S. to restart migration talks with Cuba: State Department
Jun 19th 2013, 18:24

MIAMI | Wed Jun 19, 2013 2:24pm EDT

MIAMI (Reuters) - The United States and Cuba will resume immigration talks next month after a break of more than two years, the State Department said on Wednesday.

The announcement of the migration talks, due to restart on July 17, comes as Cuban and U.S. officials are meeting in Washington for two days of "technical" discussions to restore direct mail service between the two countries after a 50-year ban.

Migration between the two countries has long been a thorny issue due to several mass exodus events over the years that have brought hundreds of thousands of Cuban exiles to south Florida.
